RAD Royal Academy of Dance Ballet Training

Throughout the entire world of dance training, the Royal Academy of Dance is unique.  Founded in 1920, it has grown to become the largest, most influential examining body for classical ballet in the world.  The RAD   Syllabus is taught in more than 82 countries, setting high standards of dance training for some 250,000 students.  The international network of trained examiners travels the world, examining pupils in the Syllabus at every level.

The safe and correct training of your children is one of the Academy’s major concerns which is why the Grades Syllabus has been devised with great care.  It progresses the child in slow stages, demanding no more of a young body than it can easily cope with.

Not only is the Syllabus great fun for the children to dance, it also helps co-ordination, fitness, sense of rhythm, musicality and self expression, as well as self-discipline and boosting confidence.

Ballet is not competitive, and the Academy’s examinations are simply setting goals to which pupils can work.

For students, examinations offer a challenge and a great sense of achievement.  For the parents they give an indication of the child’s progress.  For the teacher they provide proof of her expertise and professionalism.  And for the Academy, they are a way  of upholding and improving the standards of dance training throughout the world.

Examinations are not compulsory of course.  And for those students who are unable, for some reason, to take the Exams, the RAD offers Presentation Classes.  They are designed to enable every young person the opportunity to achieve a goal.

While ballet is fun, it is also physically demanding and parents should take great care to send their children to professional, qualified teachers.  To become registered, a teacher must first pass an Academy teaching examination.

To young people everywhere, whether they want to dance or teach professionally or simply love to dance as a hobby, the RAD provides an exciting challenge, caring training, knowledge and appreciation of one of the great artistic disciplines.

The CDTA (Canadian Dance Teachers Association)
Since 1949, the CDTA (Canadian Dance Teachers Association) , a truly Canadian organization of qualified Dance Teachers dedicated to advancing education in the field of dance, has offered workshops, exams, conventions and competitions to its members.

The CDTA (Canadian Dance Teachers Association), with over 650 members across Canada, is managed by a national board made up of two members from each of its 6 branches.
Prospective members of the CDTA (Canadian Dance Teachers Association) are examined by a Board of Examiners, and they must exhibit correct teaching skills (by teaching a class).
Each applicant must have a correct working knowledge of the syllabus in the discipline to which they have applied.

The CDTA (Canadain Dance Teachers Association) tap program offered at the Alison Lamont School of Dance trains students with absolute care. Although not mandatory, exams are offered to gain qualifications in the CDTA (Canadian Dance Teachers Association). The exams are demanding and require a lot of work. We find our students meet the challenge with enthusiasm. In general they love to achieve a tangible goal each year and attain the satisfaction of accomplishment.

    LYRICAL

Lyrical is a soft flowing style of Jazz, combining the technique of Ballet with the isolation of Jazz and the emotion of both.
This is a beautiful style for more technically trained dancers with the physical strength and maturity to handle the intensity involved.
